Welcome to the Department of Film and Television at I-Shou University! If your heart burns for stories told through light and shadow—and you crave not just to “talk about movies” in a classroom but to roll up your sleeves and actually make films—you’ve found the right place! Since our founding in 2011, we have been committed to becoming a powerful force in higher education in southern Taiwan, dedicated to cultivating outstanding professional creators in film and television. Our positioning: the most professional training base for narrative filmmaking within comprehensive universities in southern Taiwan.
We believe that only through the pragmatic spirit of “learning by doing” can we truly nurture creators who can stand on their own in the industry.

Our Evolution and Commitment: From Specialization to Cross-Disciplinary Transformation

At the time of our establishment, comprehensive universities in southern Taiwan lacked a dedicated film and television department. The founding of ISU’s Film and TV Department filled that gap. After thorough discussion, our educational goal became even more focused on cultivating talent in narrative filmmaking.
Our training is both rigorous and comprehensive, covering every key link in narrative film production: screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, performance, sound, lighting, and production design. In addition, we actively respond to the university’s “ISU 2028 Institutional Development Plan”, aiming to become the most cross-disciplinary, innovative, and globally competitive comprehensive university.

Embracing Future Tech: X+AI and Immersive Experiences

Over more than a decade, we’ve come to understand that the future of the film and TV industry is inseparable from technology. While staying true to the core of narrative filmmaking, we actively embrace new media technologies—especially Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality / Virtual Production (VR/VP).

You’ll have the chance to put creativity into practice using cutting-edge facilities:

  1. 1. The New Wave of Virtual Production (VP)

Our LED virtual stage (Metaverse Center for Technology and Art) enables you to learn state-of-the-art virtual production workflows. Real-time compositing significantly boosts shooting efficiency and elevates production quality.

  2. 2. Immersive Storytelling (VR)

As early as 2022, we introduced the advanced 11K VR360 camera (insta360 Titan) and launched X+AI courses to guide students in creating 360-degree narrative films.

  3. 3. Artificial Intelligence (AI)

In the inaugural year of generative AI, aligned with the university’s X+AI curriculum reform, we integrated generative AI into various film-production courses. For example, in “Film Mixing,” we experimented with voice-cloning tools to examine the challenges they pose to the industry and engaged students in in-depth discussions on ethics.

At ISU’s Film and TV Department, we don’t just train you to be a “filmmaker”—we prepare you to become a future professional who integrates innovative thinking and advanced technologies into narrative filmmaking. Come join us on this vibrant southern Taiwan campus and create your own cinematic legacy!
